The Challenge

Securing capital is a major hurdle for first-time entrepreneurs. Lacking the financial history and familiarity with corporate banking of established SMEs, they often find the loan process opaque and intimidating. This "experience gap" can prevent promising new businesses from ever getting off the ground.

The Solution

I designed Momentum, a guided and transparent pathway to business financing. The platform prioritizes clarity and education, featuring an instant eligibility calculator, a jargon-free annotated application form, and a visual dashboard that tracks every step of the process. It's designed to feel less like a bank and more like a helpful partner.

My Role & Approach

As the lead UI/UX designer over a long-term engagement, my primary responsibility was to understand the full scope of the banking portal's requirements and translate them into a world-class user experience.

My process was deeply collaborative and iterative. It involved continuous meetings with cross-functional teams and the client to discuss evolving user stories and functionalities tracked via Jira. My role was to take these requirements and, through a cycle of design, feedback, and refinement, produce a clear, intuitive, and user-friendly interface. I was the user's advocate in every meeting, ensuring that even as business needs shifted, the final design remained simple and trustworthy.

1

From User Story to
UI Solution

A key part of my process was deconstructing the client's user stories to find the best design solution.

2

Example User Story
from Client

"As a business owner, I want to see the status of my loan application online, so that I don't have to call the bank for updates."

3

My Design Solution

Instead of just a simple text status, I designed a visual, card-based dashboard. Each application becomes a "card" that moves through clear stages (e.g., Submitted > In Review > Approved), similar to tracking a package. This design doesn't just fulfill the requirement; it reduces user anxiety by providing a constant, clear sense of progress and transparency.

Designed for simplicity, giving users a quick estimate to build confidence before they commit to the full application process.

The Loan Calculator

The complex application was broken down into small, manageable sections with a clear progress bar, preventing users from feeling overwhelmed.

The Step-by-Step Form

To help users find the right loan products quickly, a powerful search function was implemented with smart filters for loan amount, industry type, and business age.

Powerful Search & Filtering

I learned how to be a strong user advocate within a requirement-driven environment. It reinforced the importance of applying UX first principles—clarity, feedback, and simplicity—to solve problems, even without extensive preliminary research.

What I Learned

A platform like Momentum could dramatically reduce the application processing time for both the user and the bank. By ensuring applications are complete and accurate upon submission, it could increase the loan approval rate and allow banks to serve more SMEs efficiently, ultimately fostering a stronger business ecosystem.
